The Fear of the Deep Blue lyrical concept is based around the overwhelming phobia of the deep blue unknown, bringing to life peoples nightmares about what could happen to them on or in the water. In addition, FOTDB is a vessel for marine conservation and education.

We’re In Their Territory – Single

.

Shark attack at Dawn, swimmer now is gone.

Diver got it wrong, surfer taken down.

Nothing left to see, predator will feed.

Yearly migration, that’s the way it is.

Following their prey, we got in their way.

Nothing personal, they don’t have to pay.

Stories of rogue sharks, nothing but a laugh.

Media fear campaign, boost their own ratings.

.

Blood fills the water all around, smashing into prey without a sound.

Arms and legs removed don’t feel a thing, bleeding in the water cannot swim.

.

Harvest food.

Only food.

.

Multiple attacks across, Aussie coastlines all the time.

Big bull sharks and great white sharks, It’s their nature as predators.

Eat their fill and then move on, hunting everything they can.

Preying on fish, whales and seals, accidentally take a man.

.

Take a man.

Because they can.

It’s their way.

Don’t have to pay.

.

Hunting down the shark will never bring them back.

Drum lines don’t work and vengeance is a joke.

Minimise the risk it could happen to you.

If a shark took your sister what would you do?

.

Educate the public on basic safety.

Don’t swim in shark season you could pay the penalty.

Avoid locations where you know they’re going to be.

Don’t vengeance kill a shark just move on and grieve.

.

We’re in their territory.

.

Vigilantes hunting down every shark they find.

Local tourism complaining about decreased business.

Media whipping people into a fear driven panic.

Making money boosting ratings selling newspapers.

.

You put yourself at risk when you swim in the sea.

We add ourselves to the food chain and we’re not at the top.

We’re at the mercy of the apex predators.

We know the risk we’re in their territory.

2. – In Search of Architeuthis

.

Architeuthis… Giant Squid

Sea monster of history, tentacled mystery

Ancient mariners, entwining in their folklore

Passed through generations, stories of this monster

 Architeuthis

 Attacking sea farers, fishermen, whalers

Whirlpool from submersion, drowning…

Voracious deadly hunter, gorging on the fleet

But is it all a myth?

 Genus established in 1857

Grows to a length of up to 15 metres

 Scientist, study plan, government, support

Searching, breed patterns, capture one, live

Study its, life cycle, determine its, patterns

Conservation, priority, protecting, species

Proves to be elusive, hiding in the deep

Continuing the search, at many thousand feet

Beautiful creature, hidden in the deep

Spawning countless legends, sailors cannot sleep

Nightmares in folklore, gods and men alike

Will fear this noble squid, hunter of the dark

.

3. – Intercontinental Ocean Wanderer

.

The world’s greatest billfish, Migratory majestic being

Spawning in mystery, A vicious predatory fiend

Even brand new hatchlings, Will prey upon their own

Devouring at will, No mercy is shown

Stalking school of baitfish, Relying on its speed

Rounding up a baitball, Not much longer ‘till it feeds

Baitball’s getting tighter, Other predators arrive

Staring at extinction, Nothing will survive

Now the ball is tight enough, Occasionally one peels off

Picked off by a tuna, Only tightens up the ball

The marlin finally darts in, Thrashing to and fro

Destroying with its large beak, The baitfish are too slow

Baitball’s getting smaller, As the predator feeds

Smashing with its bill, Everything it touches bleeds

Scavengers now move in, To pick over remains

Migratory majestic being, Is the king of its domain

.

4. – Poseidon

 .

I am he who dwells beneath the waves

I am commander of the oceans, the summoner of sea monsters

I am the lord of the drowned

I am he who spreads his seed among mortals and gods,

To father many children

I am he who rules Atlantis

Vengeful, Wrathful, Lustful, Strong

Men bow to me and drown horses as sacrifice

That I may grant safe passage through my waters

I am the lord of the trident

I am the god of the sea

I am Poseidon

I am the lord of the drowned

.

5. – Stop the Longliners

.

Family… Business… Passed on… Licence

Longliner, head to sea, empty holds, killing spree

Thousand hooks, baited all, not a care, massive haul

Mackerel, used for bait, target marlin, cause for hate

Kill and keep, just for fun, entire, migration

Slaughter all, none are left, not a care, bio theft

Ignorant, uneducated, fisherman, illiterate

Selling off, illegal fish, who will pay? Highest bid

What is left? Nothing there, no migration, sea is bare

No one to halt this atrocity

No one cares enough

Government buyback scheme

This just isn’t enough

Illegal fishing flourishes

Powerless to stop

Nation turns a blind eye

To a bountiful illegal crop

When will something be done?

To break up this horrid boast

Syndicate of organised crime

Infiltrates our beautiful coast

Locals are extensively upset

Just want it all to end

How to halt this juggernaut

And make the fishermen bend?

Someone stop the longliners…

Someone please stop the longliners…

 .

6. – Sting of the Seawasp

.

Jellyfish, sting, can’t feel, at first

Minutes pass, moving, cardiac, arrest

Swimmers unaware of danger in the water floating by

Stung upside the legs and shoulders, peel the stings off with a cry

Start to swim for land, panic setting in

Poison rushing through veins, horror of the sea

Penetrates the heart, cardiac arrest

Drowning in the swell, never laid to rest

Friends and family, waiting on the shore

Watching as you sink, the jellyfish prey

Clearing all the beaches, lest another be struck down

Already too late, disappear beneath the waves

Box Jellyfish

Thirty people lost, pulled back out to sea

What a massive loss, cries of endless grief

Causing summers chaos

The sting of the sea wasp

.

7. – Hammerhead

.

Moving along beaches, searching for its prey

Feeding on the helpless, bigger day by day

Migrating with the current, arranged in massive schools

A deadly streamlined killer, attacking lonely fools

Predators’ advantage, speed and skill alone

Deadly killers instincts, nature sharply honed

Moving with a swiftness, belying of its size

Unwavering attention, focused on its prize

Don’t muck with the hammerhead shark

The swimmers unaware, of the danger lurking there

Shadows beneath waves, no one will be saved

Hammerhead

Disappearing  swimmers, never to be found

Deadly silent killer, feeding without sound

Spreading human panic, staying on the ground

No one will go swimming, in case they not be found

Beaches now a danger, no one will go near

Migrating with the current, the object of our fear

.

9. – So Damn Cool (Ugly Kid Joe)

.

10. – Lost at Sea

.

The thunderstorm rolls in, The main engines stall

Taking on water, Cannot reach the shore

Make a mayday call, Deckhand overboard

Taking on water, Never make the port

No one is responding, Stranded all alone

Vessel’s going down, Beneath the spray and foam

Legs are getting heavy, Cannot stay afloat

Sink beneath the surface, Running out of hope

Lost at sea… Panicked plea… Lost at sea… Drown with me…
